Social Psychology On Television And The Purpose Of It Essay
The project I chose was project 3a.: Social Psychology on TV and the purpose of it was to evaluate a clip of a TV show and demonstrate how it illustrates social psychological concepts. I took an episode of a TV show named ââ¬Å"The Big Bang Theoryâ⬠, season 6 episode 4, and then evaluated a 4-minute clip in which the protagonist, Sheldon, is showing 2 social psychological concepts: prototypes and priming. I originally expected the outcome to be those concepts because I believed the actions in which Sheldon were participating in was in correlation to what the concepts are and because ââ¬Å"The Big Bang Theoryâ⬠is a show in which intellectual individuals interact with each other meaning for some interesting and awkward situations. The episode starts off with Sheldon and his friends at his apartment getting ready to play a game of Pictionary, a game in which they have a word and one person draws the word while the other teammate tries to guess it. Sheldon is confident that he will win and boasts about his ability at playing the game. They decide they want to play girls vs. guys and they start to play with the Sheldon being up to draw competing against her friend Penny. He begins to draw and seems to have his partner confused on what the word is and after a few seconds the girls give out the right answer. Sheldon then explains to his partner that he was drawing ââ¬Å"theâ⬠present and proceeds to argue with him about why he didnââ¬â¢t get it right.
